Your cottage lies in the heart of the planned (1756) model village of Charlestown, 60 feet above the harbour. The village cottages were arranged in rows and were built primarily for the workers of Lord Elgin. The community benefitted from a school, granary, blacksmith village hall, laundry bakery, dairy, inn, sawmill and village green. There was also an extensive rail network used for passengers and goods, a brickworks and an iron foundry.

Walk, bike or just amble this enchanted area from your doorstep, straight onto the many coastal and inland pathways, which include the Charlestown Harbour, disused Elgin railway and the Broomhall Estate. There are many options for routes of different lengths where you can evidence the history and marvel the quaint ambience. Stop for a snack, coffee or hearty meal at one of the 5 popular pub/cafe/restuarants, all a short distance from the cottage.
Travelling only a little further afield and for those charmed by our Scots TV dramas, you can easily visit our Outlander film settings at Culross, Blackness Castle, Midhope Castle, Hopetoun House, Linlithgow Palace, Aberdour Castle and Falkland village - some of these locations can be seen from the shore!!

Let's not forget the ancient Scottish Royal Burgh of Dunfermline. Lying a couple of miles north of Charlestown, you will find the medieval Benedictine Dunfermline Abbey, where Robert the Bruce is buried alongside many other notable Scots.
